Malta University Historical Society Organises Online Lecture on Naïve Art Featuring Marquis Nicholas De Piro
In spite of all the restrictions and limitations brought about by the Covid-19 pandemic, the Malta University Historical Society has continued to focus its efforts on organising and facilitating discussions and debates on Malta’s history and culture with new and innovative projects and initiatives. Chief among these has been the organisation’s Lockdown Mini-Talk’ series that consists of a number of online lectures and discussions which are free of charge and open to the general public.
Following the hugely successful first instalment that took place last February, and which featured a discussion on Süleyman the Magnificent and his links to Malta spearheaded by the scholar and academic Arnold Cassola, the organisation will now be presenting its second lecture, which shall be dealing with the topic of naïve art in Malta.
Traditionally a relatively under-explored area, Marquis Nicholas De Piro shall be delving into the significance that naïve art has with Malta's history of art in an online lecture that shall be streamed live on YouTube this Thursday 29th April at 17:00. The author and intellectual, who is the owner of the Casa Rocca Piccola in Valletta, shall be speaking about the importance and significance of a number of works of Melitensia which, he argues, are mostly under-valued or ignored, and which should, in fact be reappraised and celebrated as stars of their own exhibitions, dedicated wholly to recognising the masterpieces of naïve art that have emerged from Malta.
