M.A.D Set to Perform at the Malta International Arts Festival
The dance residency known as M.A.D - Music And Dance is back for a second edition, which is scheduled to premiere on 7th July as part of the Malta International Arts Festival.
The first iteration of MAD - Music and Dance took place in 2019 and featured a blend of local and international composers, dancers, and choreographers performing a number of works under the direction of conductor Pavel Šnajdr which skillfully combined contemporary music and dance for an evening of entertainment that left audiences clamouring for more.
Unfortunately, the Covid-19 pandemic meant that this was not to be, with the 2020 edition of the Malta International Arts Festival being canceled as a result of the coronavirus. However, with the 2021 Festival being back on track, the MAD project is back on track once more, ready to wow audiences with a series of choreographies set to a number of works by contemporary musicians.
This year's event shall feature three new choreographies prepared specifically for this performance by artists Pamela Kerr and Gaby Davies, with the dancers being accompanied by the Greek virtuoso pianist Konstantinos Destounis.
Konstantinos Destounis
Destounis, whose young but illustrious career already includes concerts at the Royal Albert Hall in London, the TeatroLa Fenice in Venice, the Llewellyn Hall in Canberra and the Glocke Saal in Bremen, shall be performing works by Theodore Antoniou, Béla Bartók and Olivier Messiaen for this event, all of which shall be performed live in front of the socially-distanced audience.
And, if that were not enough, the 2021 MAD program also includes a new choreography by Sara Accettura which will feature the Moveo Dance Company performing to Steve Reich's Triple Quartet.
This event shall take place at Pjazza Teatru Rjal, Valletta, on Wednesday 7 th July at 8.30pm. For tickets, log on to www.festivals.mt/mad-music-dance .
