Composer Ruben Zahra
Ruben Zahra is a Maltese composer, producer, and contemporary music enthusiast. He is an alumnus of the University of Malta, graduating in 1994 with a specialty in music and theatre studies. After that, Ruben continued his musical education in Italy, where he studied composition and orchestration in Rome, electronic music in Frosinone, and soundtrack music in Siena. Eventually, Ruben finished his education with a master’s degree in music composition at Californian Mills College in 2002.
This cosmopolitan experience gave Ruben a good professional perspective, having learned about varied approaches to making music from different parts of the world. As a result, Ruben Zahra wrote numerous pieces for famous opera houses in China, Africa, the Middle East, the United States of America, and Australia.
Today, Ruben Zahra lives in Malta. He is a freelance composer and is also an active member of the Maltese contemporary music scene. He is the chairman and director of several major contemporary music associations and festivals. Ruben also publishes ENCORE arts and culture magazine.
